The Need for On-Site Air Monitoring Analysis in Rockland County, New York

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the air that we breathe in Rockland County as being in a "severe" ozone non-attainment area.  We are confounded by the lack of on-site air monitoring in Rockland County, by New York State Department of Conservation (DEC). Particulate Matter Air Quality Assessment

The Rockland County Conservation Association (RCCA) believes that no community should be considered for the siting of electric generating plants where there is not a recorded history of the air quality.  People do not breathe averaged air, we breathe what is around us, one breath at a time.  It is for this reason that accurate data must be obtained by ongoing monitoring.click here.

RCCA supported the establishment of the Open Space Guidelines. It is the policy of Rockland County to preserve open spaces as an important element in shaping Rockland's development pattern and in preserving its aesthetic and environmental quality. It is the intent of the County to acquire properties that will best enhance residents' quality of life and to preserve those properties for public access for future generations
